The 2nd EO-SAT Summer School on “Earth Observation Techniques for Monitoring Volcanic and Seismic Hazards” will offer basic skills and an updated view of current and future EO techniques for volcanic and seismic hazard monitoring.
The School will complement the Master EO-SAT for in-depth study of EO applications to these specific topics. It will also offer MoS and PhD students, and professionals from the private and public sectors, the opportunity to strengthen their background in such a challenging topic.
The School benefits from the best international expertise from Academia, Research Centres and private companies which operate in the EO sector.
Chair professor at the Department of Space Science and Engineering, National Central University (NCU), TAIWAN. His research speciality is ionospheric pulsations, ionospheric radio sciences, GPS geoscience applications, ionospheric modeling, and lithosphere-atmosphere-ionospheric coupling. He established a comprehensive university space center, Center for Astronautical Physics and Engineering (CAPE), at NCU in 2018, and served as Director to provide an array of services for space education, research, and mission supports during 2018-2026. He has published more than 360 referred journal papers since 1988.

His main research interests are in the field of Earth Observation (EO) from space, with more than 25 years’ experience in advanced satellite data analysis methods, design and development for environmental research, natural hazards and security application fields. He is in charge of the Basilicata Copernicus Relay within the EU Space Ambassador network. Within the NEREUS network, he is a member of the EO/Copernicus Working Group and of the Standing Committee. He is a member of the EMSEV bureau and a CNR deputy within the Technical Committee of the National Aerospace Cluster.

He received recognition (1999) and awards (2001) from NASA, was named IEEE Fellow in 2013, received the "Guido Dorso" Prize in 2015, the "Christiaan Huygens" Medal from the European Geosciences Union in 2017, the IEEE GRSS Fawwaz Ulaby Distinguished Achievement Award in 2020, and was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2023.

A free shuttle from Potenza (leaving at 4:30 PM from the external Parking of the University pole of Macchia Romana and at 5PM from the Potenza Central Railway Station) to Giardini d'Oriente Village will be available on September 13th for Summer School participants. For those arriving early in the morning who want to reach the meeting point from Potenza Central Railway Station (Potenza Centrale or Potenza Inferiore), several public buses are available (line 1A is the direct one, but note that no bus service is scheduled on Sunday, 13th, from 1 PM to 4 PM) and useful trains for the Macchia Romana Station (at 5 min walking distance from the meeting point). Additionally, taxis are also available (approximately 10€). Ask the driver to stop at the University Pole of Macchia Romana (ticketing is also available onboard for 1.50€; see the app for details).
